IN MEMORY OF MIRON LOCKETT

Miron Lockett New Orleans Bicyclist

Miron Lockett was more than a gifted singer, songwriter, and actor—he was a vessel of our culture, a son of New Orleans, and a worker in the world of art whose voice carried not just melody, but the dreams and struggles of the New Orleans people.

From humble beginnings on a basement stage in Gallier Hall to New York's grandest venues, he brought with him the soul of a city born of resilience and creativity.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Miron was violently taken from us-killed by an 18-wheeler while riding his bicycle through the streets of the city he called home. His death at the intersection of St. Claude and Franklin is not a tragedy of fate, but a consequence of a system that prioritizes profit and motorized convenience over human life and public safety.

Miron was cherished by his family, friends, and his community-not just for his art, but for his warmth, his depth, and his unwavering humanity.

We ride with Miron in our hearts. We refuse to let his memory fade. We reject a world where people are disposable and streets are built solely for the combustion engiene.

In Miron's honor and in the memory of all those lost to traffic violence, Critical Mass Nola will continue to fight for a citywide network of connected, separated bike lanes-because the right to move freely and safely through our streets belongs to the people, and should be planned for the people and the planet.

Rest in Power, Miron Lockett.
